The plan consists of three separate blocks, each containing six apartments ranging from 79 sqm to 143 sqm, laid out side-by-side. Each apartment has a unique layout that includes features such as double ceiling height volumes with mezzanine floors, double-height sliding window sections and separate entrances on each level. This enables possibilities such as multi-generational living and live/workspaces. The house sits on a south-facing plot and measures 240 square metres. Its façade is clad with green slate tiles, reminiscent of old Swedish farm buildings. Upon entering the home, the visitor is led down a corridor that reveals a large open-plan kitchen/dining and living area, set against the backdrop of a 6 metre high window. The kitchen is dominated by a long island and to the right is the dining area which is dominated by a 3.5 metre-long solid oak Miss Holly table, also designed by Jonas. Beyond the kitchen and dining area, the room opens out into the living area, revealing a double-height ceiling space that makes the impressive space even more dramatic. Just outside the main living area, a 15 metre-long swimming pool and terrace, paved with the same grey sandstone slabs as the interior to create a seamless transition to the outdoor space. Upstairs, at the end of the corridor, a mezzanine area inspired by the “alrum”, popular in Scandinavian homes, overlooks the living room below. It shares the view and daylight of the enormous window below. The plan consists of a row of 12 apartments and a block of 28 apartments, with the buildings reaching up to 25 metres high. The row is arranged into vertically stacked blocks bordering a lake. The single block is situated behind the row of apartments. Single and double-height cubic volumes define the different areas indoors, and create private outdoor spaces. In addition to individual terraces, the plan also included a communal rooftop swimming pool and terrace within the apartment block, and a private bathing house, located on the lake. The entire development was to be built in wood, to follow the local vernacular and signify the important role of wood in the local industry. However, due to building regulations stipulating that the footprint remain unchanged, the house was rebuilt entirely. Although the site sits within a residential neighbourhood, privacy was crucial. This was achieved by placing the garage at the street-facing front of the house, with a path leading alongside the garage to the home. Tall shrubbery borders the site, creating a boundary between the neighbouring homes. A long, narrow hallway runs along the length of the house, leading to the master bedroom suite and the children’s bedrooms. Central to the plan is the integrated kitchen, dining and lounge area, which opens out to a west-facing patio. It comprises five interconnected pavilion-like volumes, organised in a sequence. The children’s bedrooms and master bedroom sit at either end of the main communal areas. Inspired by the typology of the traditional pitched-roof barn, its language is more modernist. The street-facing block is south, south-west facing and consists of five split-level apartments laid out over four levels, ranging from 72-141 m2. To the back of the plot, the second block contains two three-storey apartments measuring 167 m2 and 207 m2. Each home is laid out over two or three levels and is distinct in terms of both layout and design. The north entrance faces a road. It is designed as a closed volume, which acts as a buffer against street noise. The west-facing façade is more open, incorporating retractable wall pocket windows facing the lake. Azul Bateig is used throughout the ground level, integrating interior and exterior. The open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining area was designed as a social area. A cantilevered section accommodates the master suite. The bedroom is dominated by a fixed panoramic window overlooking a lake. The ensuite bathroom is situated in a cube within the bedroom. The plan was to create a place that interacts and blends in with the beach and the surrounding pine forests. The plot was occupied by another house - which was subsequently demolished - but the planning restrictions stipulated that the new structure should be no larger than its 90 m2 predecessor. However, the site was moved a few metres closer to the sea where the topography was higher and offered a better view. Due to the constant shifting of the sand, a cast concrete foundation was not a viable option. This determined the structural design of the house, which is built on a deck and raised on short stilts. The house is constructed in pine with a façade of sliding glass partitions on the side, facing out to sea. The interior layout is open-plan, combining the kitchen, dining and living room. The aim was to bring art and design closer to the university's community by creating an exhibition space on campus. The 19 m2 pavilion was designed to resemble the physical interpretation of an idea of a house, with a form inspired by the archetypical barn. Constructed in two sections, the smallest segment was positioned to sit at a 15 degree angle to the main structure. The pavilion was made from plywood panels interspersed with windows, which were constructed from laminated glass and continued from the façade in to the roof, sitting level with the structure's exterior. The group exhibition was based on the concept of passion and the emotions associated with it. The 648 m2 area was clad in a deep crimson polyurethane, which was stretched across concealed trapezoid frames protruding from the walls. The frames not only served to create an environment evocative of walking through the innermost chambers of the heart, but also created the illusion of the works literally jumping out at the viewer. The exhibition also included works inspired by the famous series, by artists such as James Northcote, David Hockney, Paula Rego, Jockum Nordström, Ingmar Bergman and Nathalie Djurberg. Rather than creating a gallery environment, the proposal was to create a totally immersive experience. ersta kyrka, 2015 The design for the 19th century church in Stockholm included furniture and lighting. It was important for the existing church, with its history and neo-Gothic features, to remain as faithful to the architecture as possible, and that the new elements should be linked to the present, while retaining a connection with corresponding elements in older churches. The Öland limestone altar - a guiding principle - was inspired by historic altars, renaissance style in particular. The limestone font mirrors the octagonal footprint of the church. Indirect lighting emphasizes the domed roof. The grey and white palette reflects the original interior. Taking the "forest, lake and meadow" philosophy of the gastronomy of PM & Vänner as the starting point, the ambition was to work with this concept to create a destination that felt cosmopolitan, while rooted in its surroundings. Limestone from nearby Öland features in the bathrooms, reception and bar, representing both the foundation of the hotel and the topography of the region. Oiled oak floors made of wood from Småland provide a neutral backdrop to design classics such as Carl Malmsten chairs. Long, dark stained oak tables and benches sit amid a minimal backdrop of white ceramic tiled and rendered concrete walls with rough metal design details, reflecting both the building's industrial past and the restaurant's pared down daily menu. This was inspired by the unassuming exterior of the traditional Italian trattoria. However, inside, the decor is inviting. The interior is dominated by copper, chosen for its opulent quality and connection to the history of cooking. The bathrooms are copper clad, and toward the back of the restaurant, an intermediary copper and glass work area between the kitchen and dining room offers a stage for the chefs. Leather banquettes and, again, copper lamps, combined with indirect lighting, create a warm ambience within the minimal white decor of the dining room. Built from wood, its architecture is typical of the local vernacular of wooden homes dating back to the 18th century. In 2010, the hotel reopened. The intention was to create an interior that reflected the era when the hotel was built, while imagining how it would look in the present day, had it remained open throughout the century. The upper floors, which sat unused for a number of decades, follow the original plan, but the basement and ground floor required an overhaul. The colourscheme reflects how the hotel may have originally looked. Simple furniture in oak, traditional midcentury Swedish linens and hand-woven carpets, all inspired by traditional decorative arts and Shaker style, were combined with unique pieces designed by Lindvall A & D and vintage furniture from Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner and Calm Malmsten. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/55dc2c1be4b05f8b598f4be2/1441197979185-NCAQTU6DQZZQFUNBGRDV/1.jpg Interiors - Yxklinten, 1999 The client, a lawyer specialising in entertainment, media, publishing and gaming law, worked from a small office in Malmö's Trekungahuset, an early 20th century building of great historic importance, designed by the architect John Smedberg. The intention was to create an environment that felt relaxed and contemporary, while maintaining the formality of a traditional legal milieu. One of the starting points was to create storage for confidential documents. Rosewood boxes hang on one of the walls. Their configuration is a three-dimensional play on the paragraph symbol. The biggest challenge was to create a retail space that could incorporate two fitting rooms plus a staircase, and which would feel both spacious and luxurious, in an area measuring just 34 m2 in total. In the ceiling, panels illuminated with indirect lighting were used to break up the physical barriers of each room. The exterior was listed, so external changes were not permitted. Laid out over one-and-a-half floors, the interior plan was changed completely. The ground floor was divided into a number of rooms. The dividing walls were removed to create an open-plan kitchen and dining area. The bathroom, bedroom and lounge are on the upper level within the gabled roof of the house. Indirect lighting was fitted within the beams in ceiling beams, for soft ambient lighting and to create the illusion of higher ceilings. The kitchen is integrated into the bar area, with a long counter that divides it from the 70 m2 dining room placed diagonally. Its positioning accommodates a longer bar and the corner of the bar creates a meeting point for guests, where they can talk to the staff before sitting at their table or have a quick drink. The wider space at the back of the bar also creates an area for socialising. The original pale green colour scheme was inspired by traditional celadon-glazed ceramics. Ash furniture complements the subtle palette. High stools along the bar allow guests to interact with and observe the kitchen. The arched design of the seat follows the Japanese theme. The alpine inspired wooden structure dates back to the 1950s. Lindvall A & D was approached to create an interior that would reflect its aspiration to become one of Sweden's top fine dining restaurants. In contrast to its rustic façade, the interior is intended to be luxurious and surprising. The hallway is clad in gold leaf, and overlooking the kitchen, a zebrano chef's table sits against a palatial floral mosaic backdrop. The dining room is more subdued. The walls are clad in indirectly lit geometric wood panels, inspired by the outside façade, providing both ambient light and sound absorption. The Swedish author Torbjörn Flygt gave a personal speech, as guests perused an amassment of over 20 year's worth of work.
