Dekadens, 2009

Dekadens was the scenography for an exhibition based on the theme of decadence, as portrayed in the 18th century artist William Hogarth's celebrated A Rake’s Progress. The exhibition also included works inspired by the famous series, by artists such as James Northcote, David Hockney, Paula Rego, Jockum Nordström, Ingmar Bergman and Nathalie Djurberg.

Rather than creating a gallery environment, the proposal was to create  a totally immersive experience. The space was divided into twelve separate environments; the aim being to dramatise and, to some extent, to enhance and clarify the artists' different interpretations of Hogarth's series, while maintaining a respect for the integrity of the artworks.
